06 Dec Glen of Imaal to the Mullacore Hut
This is an A to B but you could vary it to go over Lugnaquilla if you wanted to do a loop. We planned to stay in the Mullacor Hut which is a adirondack shelter built and maintained by Mountain Meitheal. These huts are free to use just leave them as you find them (unless someone else has not tidied up after themselves). The start of the route goes through the Artillery Range at the Glen of Imaal so caution is advised. DO stay on the tracks and DO NOT wander off them as there may be unexploded bombs from Army training. If red flags are raised DO NOT undertake this walk and call +353 (0)45 404653 for advice. On the 15th of April 1979, a fatal accident occurred in the Glen when a group of teenagers engaging in an orienteering activity triggered an explosive which subsequently detonated, killing three and serious injuring others.
